A Daily Prayer Habit

Updated: Jan 2, 2024

My name is Marci Brown, and I am the founder of a Coaching, Mentoring, and Discipleship program called Light Warrior Coach, where together we walk with Christ and live life through prayer, mindfulness meditations, and practices that help us reach our full potential, while staying rooted in biblical truths.

One of the ways I keep grounded in life is through daily prayer and meditation rituals and I am excited to share this practice with you!

Why prayer?

Praying and meditating on God's word is the most powerful way to draw closer to God! Praying opens the windows and doors of our souls and allows God to transform lives through the Holy Spirit! What I've found is that when other people's lives are transformed, it in turn transforms ours too in ways we never knew were possible or were needed. We allow God to manifest HIS good and perfect plans into our lives and those we care about, just as God intended!

Practicing mindfulness meditation allows us to learn the art of letting go of thoughts that do not serve us and allow God's voice to be the only voice who guides us. This starts by sitting quietly and allowing the thoughts to pass through us as if they were scenes of a movie that flow past us and we do not allow them to stay or marinate in them, we simply thank them for showing up and let them leave. Feel free to research more about this on your own from other Mindfulness practitioners out there who can share the rewards and benefits of this practice.

By incorporating 10 minutes a day of this practice, I am excited to learn how your relationship with Christ will change and what wonderful works show up! Send me a message or share a comment on this post what you discover!

How do I use this tool?

I have created a daily and monthly theme of prayer topics that you can follow each month.

Pick a calendar month or topic, schedule 10 minutes a day where you can be alone in silence, and pray each day on the guided topic. To get your copy of this free monthly themed prayer guide, subscribe to my blog below! If there is a specific theme you don't see listed here, send me an email at marcibrowncoaching@gmail.com, to request topics to be added in future content releases!

Should I set a timer?

Sure! If you have limited time or if you are new and would like help staying on track, this works perfectly. Although, it is not necessary or needed.

I'm new to this, how do I pray/meditate?

When we pray there are several different ways we can start. If you are new to this practice, I like to introduce this format that helped me tremendously get my heart in the habit of prayer; it follows the letters of P-R-A-Y.

P-raise God! for all the blessings He has given you today (starting with a grateful heart).

Example could be this "Dear God, thank you for the amazing blessings you have given me, a warm bed to rest on, the beautiful sunrise and the scenery I see as I look out my window, all creation comes from you and I am blessed to receive it."

R-epent! acknowledge to God that we (all of us) are sinners; we fall short everyday of God's perfect standards by our very human nature. The more we can acknowledge and repent for our sins, the more this opens our heart to the humility and surrendering to God.

Example " God, I know I fall short every day, forgive me for the sinful negative thoughts I had today about my coworker. Help me show how to apply more grace and acceptance towards her, open my heart to forgive her as I have been forgiven."

A-sk! now that your heart has been opened to love and gratitude, your mannerism is at a place of humility, you are now ready to ask for what you would like!

Example "Lord, today I ask for your favor and blessing on my circumstance. In today's meeting, give me your wisdom, acceptance, and your heart of patience as I navigate this hard conversation."

Y-ield to God's will or say Yes to what he asks you to do! This part will depend on how you and God interact. It's important here that we wait and listen! Praying is part talking and mostly listening for the holy spirit to speak to you!

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to pray. The bible gives us ways to pray (Matthew 6:5-13) that you can absolutely recite, and know praying is openly talking to God, heart to heart, so allow the conversation to be authentic to you.

You can also pray as simple as this "(God/Lord/Jesus), I come to you today with a grateful heart and mind. Forgive me for my sins and let today renew my mind and allow you to speak to me. Protect our time together as I receive your wisdom"....then select the topic of prayer, "Today I'd like to pray about (insert our daily prayer topic)". Allow your heart to guide your words and when you are ready sit in stillness for thoughts or wisdom to come to you or float through you. When your time is done, end with "In Jesus' name I pray, Amen" or "Let your will be done Lord, Amen"

Keep in mind the holy spirit may or may not speak to you during your meditation time, messages may come upon you in random ways throughout the day. I believe practicing mindfulness meditation allows a more clear path for the holy spirit to come into your life, so it strengthens the spiritual path for your connection to Christ. I can't wait for you to experience this new found connection!

Your Warrior in Christ,

Marci Brown
